A brief has three edges on it, the waist and the two legs, where a boxer brief adds a hem and a seam down each leg as well. On a day of high steps, stiles and sitting down on cold stone, that is the whole of the difference. One less edge to notice at the top of a climb.

Cut on a women's pattern, narrower through the shoulder and shaped through the waist, so take your usual size. If you are between two sizes, take the larger one, because everything here is meant to be layered.

Machine wash cool and inside out, and skip the fabric softener. It coats the fibre and is the most common way people ruin the wicking on a base layer. Do not tumble dry fleece or anything waterproof. Heated pieces are washed only with the power cell removed.
